Local-first processing

1. Scope of This Policy

Thank you for joining Peersona. We at Peersona ("Peersona", "we", "us") respect your privacy and want you to understand how we collect, use, and share data about you. Unless we link to a different policy or state otherwise, this Privacy Policy applies when you visit or use the Peersona website, mobile applications, APIs, or related services (collectively, the "Services").

By using the Services, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy. You should not use the Services if you do not agree with this Privacy Policy or any other agreement that governs your use of the Services.

2. Data We Collect

We collect certain information directly from you, information generated when you use the Services, and information collected automatically from your device and interactions with the Services.

2.2 Chat data and AI-powered analysis

When you import WhatsApp chat files into the app, selected portions of imported chat data may be processed to generate insights, suggestions, summaries, and conversation analysis. This processing may occur locally on your device or, where necessary for a requested feature, through secure transmission to our backend infrastructure or trusted third-party AI service providers.

Depending on the feature used, processed data may include:

  • Message text or selected conversation segments.
  • Draft messages written by the user.
  • Conversation structure or reply pairs.
  • Timestamps and message ordering.
  • Contextual conversation information.
  • Screenshots uploaded for chat analysis.

Data is transmitted only when the user actively requests AI-powered analysis or generation within the application. By using AI-powered features, the user explicitly requests that selected portions of conversation data be processed by OpenAI for the purpose of generating the requested output.

2.3 Technical and usage data

We may collect limited technical, device, and usage-related information, including:

  • Device type.
  • Operating system version.
  • App version.
  • Feature usage statistics.
  • Session activity.
  • IP address.
  • Approximate geographic location, such as country or city level.

This information is used solely for operating and maintaining the Services, improving functionality and reliability, and supporting security, fraud prevention, and abuse detection.

2.4 Third-party services

Peersona may use trusted third-party service providers to operate certain features of the Services. These providers may process only the data necessary to provide their functionality.

OpenAI

Used for AI-powered chat analysis and suggestion features when the user requests AI functionality.

Google Firebase / Google Cloud

Used for backend infrastructure, hosting, analytics, and push notifications where required to operate the Services.

RevenueCat

Used for subscription and entitlement management, including app user identifiers and subscription status.

Apple (App Store / StoreKit)

Used for purchases, subscriptions, and Apple Push Notification service related processing.

Advertising and attribution providers

Where used, providers such as Meta, Google Ads, or TikTok Ads may process limited technical or attribution data in accordance with their own policies and contracts.

3. Automated Technologies and Imported Data

3.1 Cookies and similar technologies

We use cookies, analytics tools, and similar technologies to enable essential functionality, remember user preferences, improve performance and stability, and analyze aggregated usage trends. We do not use cookies or tracking technologies for cross-site behavioral advertising, we do not engage in device fingerprinting, and we do not sell or share personal data for advertising purposes.

Some analytics providers may collect limited device and usage information in aggregated or pseudonymized form to help us operate and improve the Services. You may control certain cookie or tracking preferences through your browser or device settings.

3.2 Data you choose to import

Peersona allows users to import WhatsApp chat files voluntarily. Chat files are primarily processed locally on your device. Certain features of the Services, including AI-powered analysis or insight generation, may require selected portions of imported data to be securely transmitted to backend infrastructure or trusted third-party AI service providers as described in this Privacy Policy.

You are solely responsible for ensuring that you have the legal rights and necessary permissions from the participants in the conversation to upload and process any chat data through the application.

4. How We Process and Use Your Data

4.1 Chat data

When you import WhatsApp chat files into the application, the data may be processed to generate insights, summaries, suggestions, and conversation analysis. Chat data is primarily processed locally on your device. Certain features may require selected portions of chat data to be securely transmitted to Peersona's backend infrastructure or trusted third-party AI service providers to provide the requested functionality.

We do not use chat content for advertising, marketing, behavioral profiling, or training machine learning models. Where possible, generated insights and analysis results are stored locally on your device unless you choose to export or share them.

4.2 Technical and operational data

We may process limited technical and operational data unrelated to chat content for the following purposes:

  • To operate and maintain the Services.
  • To authenticate user accounts, where applicable.
  • To improve performance, stability, and security.
  • To analyze aggregated usage trends.

5. Data Retention

5.1 Chat data

Imported WhatsApp chat files are primarily stored and processed locally on your device. Peersona does not permanently store the content of your conversations on our servers. Where certain features require server-side or third-party AI processing, selected portions of chat data may be processed temporarily to generate the requested analysis and are not retained for longer than necessary to provide that functionality.

5.2 Account and subscription data

Account data, if applicable, is retained only for as long as necessary to provide the Services or as required by law. Subscription and transaction-related data may be retained by payment and entitlement providers in accordance with their legal and operational obligations.

5.3 Analytics data

Analytics data is retained in aggregated or pseudonymized form in accordance with the applicable service provider's retention policies.

6. When We Share Data

Peersona does not sell, rent, or trade chat content. We do not share chat content with third parties for advertising, marketing, or profiling purposes. Certain features may require limited processing of chat data through Peersona's backend infrastructure or trusted third-party AI service providers, and that processing occurs only to provide the functionality requested by the user.

6.1 Service providers

We may share limited personal or technical information with trusted third-party service providers that assist us in operating, maintaining, and improving the Services. These providers process data on our behalf and are contractually required to maintain appropriate confidentiality and security safeguards.

6.2 Refund evaluation

If you request a refund through Apple or another authorized payment provider, we may provide limited transactional or usage-related information necessary to evaluate the request, such as purchase status or feature activation. We do not provide chat messages or identifiable conversation content for this purpose.

6.3 Legal requirements and business transfers

We may disclose personal information if required by law, regulation, court order, or valid legal process. In the event of a merger, acquisition, restructuring, or sale of assets, limited personal information may be transferred as part of the transaction, subject to appropriate confidentiality safeguards.

6.4 With your consent

We may share information with third parties when you explicitly authorize us to do so.

7. Security

We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal data processed through the Services.

  1. Local processing protection. WhatsApp chat data is primarily processed on your device. Where data must be transmitted to backend infrastructure or trusted service providers, we apply appropriate safeguards during processing and transmission.
  2. Protection of stored data. For limited personal data that we may collect and store, such as account information, subscription status, or transactional data, we apply safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the data.
  3. Encryption. Where data must be transmitted, we use industry-standard encryption protocols such as TLS to protect data in transit.
  4. No absolute guarantee. No method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
  5. User responsibility. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for securing your device through passwords, biometrics, or system encryption where available.

8. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have rights regarding your personal data, including rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing.

8.1 Choices about data use

You may choose not to provide certain information, but this may limit your ability to use certain features of the Services. If you receive promotional communications from us, you may opt out at any time using the unsubscribe mechanism included in the message or by updating your preferences where available. We may still send service-related communications such as administrative notices or important account information.

8.2 Accessing, updating, and deleting personal data

You may access, update, or request deletion of the personal data that Peersona collects and maintains. 9.2 Nevada residents

Nevada residents may request that a company not sell their personal information. Peersona does not sell personal information.
